This checklist is for adults who want to feel healthier and more put-together, not to change how they look to meet someone else’s standard. It adds one area at a time over 30 days, so nothing depends on willpower or a long shopping list. There are no crash diets, extreme workouts or harsh skin treatments here; every habit is one you could keep for years.

What should be on a glow up checklist?

A glow up checklist covers seven everyday areas: skincare, hair, movement, sleep, nutrition, style and mindset. These are the core habits, and the weekly plan below builds them in gradually.

  • Skincare: cleanse, moisturize and wear broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning.
  • Hair: wash on a schedule that suits your hair type and book a trim if it has been a while.
  • Movement: move most days, with two strength sessions a week.
  • Sleep: aim for 7 or more hours on a regular schedule.
  • Nutrition: eat regular, balanced meals and drink water through the day.
  • Style: wear clothes that fit you now and feel like you.
  • Mindset: notice one thing you did well each day.

Week 1 (days 1 to 7): sleep and a simple skincare routine

Week 1 starts with sleep and skincare because they are quick to set up and support everything else. The CDC recommends 7 or more hours of sleep a night for adults aged 18 to 60, and the American Academy of Dermatology recommends a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher.

  • Pick a fixed wake-up time and a bedtime that allows 7 or more hours.
  • Put your phone away 30 minutes before bed.
  • Morning: gentle cleanser, moisturizer, broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher.
  • Evening: remove makeup and sunscreen, cleanse, moisturize.
  • Wash your pillowcase and makeup brushes.

Not sure which products suit you? Start with our skin type guide and keep the routine to three steps for now.

Week 2 (days 8 to 14): hair care and daily movement

Week 2 adds hair care and movement while keeping week 1 going. The CDC recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week (about 30 minutes, 5 days a week) plus at least 2 days of muscle-strengthening activity for adults.

  • Book a trim or a fresh cut that suits your face shape (our face shape guide can help).
  • Set a wash routine for your hair type and use heat protectant if you heat-style.
  • Walk, dance, cycle or swim for 30 minutes on 5 days.
  • Do two short strength sessions (bodyweight is fine).
  • Stretch for 5 minutes after you move.

Week 3 (days 15 to 21): nutrition and hydration

Week 3 is about eating regularly and well, not eating less. Skip any plan that cuts out whole food groups or promises fast weight loss.

  • Eat three regular meals, each with a protein, a vegetable or fruit, and a whole grain or other carbohydrate.
  • Keep a water bottle with you and refill it through the day.
  • Add one extra serving of vegetables or fruit each day.
  • Plan two easy meals you enjoy and can repeat.
  • Notice how sleep and food affect your energy, without tracking calories.

Week 4 (days 22 to 28): style and mindset

Week 4 brings in style and mindset, the two areas that change how you feel walking out the door.

  • Remove clothes that do not fit or that you never reach for.
  • Build three outfits from what you already own that you feel good in.
  • Try an easy everyday makeup look if you enjoy makeup, such as no-makeup makeup.
  • Write down one thing you did well each evening.
  • Unfollow accounts that leave you feeling worse about yourself.

Days 29 and 30: review and keep what works

The last two days are for looking back, not adding more. Keep the habits that felt good, drop the ones that did not fit your life, and pick one area to focus on next month.

  • Tick off which habits you kept on most days.
  • Note how your sleep, energy and skin feel compared with day 1.
  • Choose one habit to strengthen in the next 30 days.

What should a healthy glow up avoid?

A healthy glow up avoids anything extreme, painful or rushed.

  • Crash diets, skipped meals or extreme fasting. They drain energy and mood.
  • DIY skin hacks such as lemon juice or toothpaste on the skin, and scrubbing or exfoliating every day.
  • Comparing yourself with filtered photos. Real skin has texture, and that is normal.
  • Buying everything at once. Add one product at a time so you can tell what works.

If you are struggling with eating, low mood or anxiety about how you look, talk to a doctor or a mental health professional. A glow up should make daily life feel better, not harder.

How can an app help you follow the plan?

An app can help you decide where to start by pointing you to the areas that matter most for you. Beautify (our iPhone app) gives you a Glow Up Guide after a selfie scan, with step-by-step sections for skincare, hair, fitness, sleep and nutrition, alongside your face shape, eye shape and skin type. It has no progress charts or streaks, so keep this checklist for tracking day to day. The guide needs Beautify Premium, a weekly subscription. Learn more on our glow up page.

Questions people ask

What should be on a glow up checklist?

A simple skincare routine with daily sunscreen, basic hair care, regular movement, at least 7 hours of sleep, balanced meals and water, a small wardrobe refresh, and a few minutes of kinder self-talk.

Can you glow up in 30 days?

You can build the habits in 30 days, and many people notice they feel more rested and put-together by the end. Skin, hair and fitness changes keep building for months, so treat day 30 as a starting line.

Do you need to diet to glow up?

No. A healthy glow up is about regular, balanced meals, enough water and enough sleep. Crash diets and extreme restriction work against energy, skin and mood.

Is there an app with a glow up plan?

Beautify's Glow Up Guide has step-by-step sections for skincare, hair, fitness, sleep and nutrition based on your selfie scan. It is an iPhone app and the guide needs a weekly subscription.
