Beautify is our app, so weigh our take accordingly; every competitor fact below comes from that app’s own App Store listing or website, checked in October 2026, and nothing here comes from hands-on testing. A face shape detector reads a selfie, sorts your face into a category such as oval, round, square or heart, and (in most apps) suggests hairstyles, glasses or makeup to match. If you would rather check by hand first, our face shape guide walks through the mirror method.
How did we choose these apps?
We included iPhone apps whose own listing or website says they detect face shape, then looked at what each one does with the result.
- Face shape on the listing. The app’s own App Store page or website must say it identifies face shape.
- Something to do next. Hairstyle, makeup or style suggestions count for more than a label.
- Clear pricing model and upkeep. We describe how each app charges and note listings that have not been updated recently.

1. Beautify - Glow Up: best for face shape, eye shape and skin type in one scan
Beautify gives you your face shape as part of a full beauty analysis, so one selfie returns your shape, your eye shape, your skin type and eight scores out of 100.
- What it does: the Your Characteristics page returns your face shape (oval, round, square, heart or oblong), eye shape and skin type. The face shape result opens a page with makeup tips and hairstyles for that shape. The same scan produces eight beauty scores and a Glow Up Guide.
- Platforms: iPhone only (iOS 13 or later), English only.
- Pricing model: free to download; results need Beautify Premium, a weekly subscription, with one scan per week and extra scans as a one-off Superboost purchase.
- Rating: 4.4 stars from 1,100+ ratings (US, October 2026).
- Limitation: its five results do not include diamond, and it suggests hairstyles rather than showing them on your photo.
2. Hiface - Face Shape Finder: best for styles matched to your shape
Hiface is a dedicated face shape app that turns your result into hairstyle, beard, glasses and makeup suggestions.
- What it says it does: “Find your face shape”, then style suggestions for “hairstyles, beards, glasses, or makeup”. It also says you can “Try out different hairstyles virtually” and “Ask Style AI”. Its website promises “Results in under 10 seconds”.
- Platforms: iPhone only on the App Store; Android on Google Play.
- Pricing model: free to download with weekly, monthly and yearly subscriptions listed, plus one-off extra analysis credits.
- Rating: 4.1 stars from about 1,300 ratings (US, October 2026); updated September 2026.
3. Glam Up - Perfect Your Look: best for face shape with color analysis
Glam Up pairs face shape detection with a color season scan and makeup routines.
- What it says it does: its facial analysis finds “face shape, eye shape, skin tone, and all your facial features”, plus a “Color Analysis scan” and “step-by-step makeup routines, and product recommendations”.
- Platforms: iPhone and iPad; Android.
- Pricing model: free to download; its listing notes “analysis require subscription”.
- Note: last updated October 2024 on the App Store. See our Glam Up alternatives page for more options.
4. LooksMax Face Rating AI (LooxUP): best for face shape inside a looks rating
LooxUP includes face shape in a broader looks rating and symmetry analysis.
- What it says it does: it will “analyze … your face shape, facial features, proportions, skin tone, and more” and give “recommendations on skin care, hairstyle selection, clothing style and accessories”. Its subscription perks include a “ranking of men in your area”.
- Platforms: iPhone only; no Android listing found.
- Pricing model: free to download with weekly and monthly subscription plans.
- Rating: 4.5 stars from about 36,800 ratings (US, October 2026).
5. YouCam Makeup: best for seeing makeup and hair on your photo
YouCam Makeup is a photo editor with virtual try-on, and its maker says the app also identifies face shape.
- What it says it does: Perfect Corp’s own blog says the app “instantly identifies your face shape using facial landmarks”. The App Store listing describes “Live Makeup Virtual Try On” and “AI Hairstyle: Try on 250+ preset hairstyles”. Face shape detection is described on the blog, not on the App Store listing.
- Platforms: iPhone and iPad; Android.
- Pricing model: free to download; a subscription unlocks premium looks and AI features.
6. Find Your Face Shape: best for a quick scan and hairstyle ideas
Find Your Face Shape is a simple app that scans your face and then shows hairstyles for that shape.
- What it says it does: “Scan your face to identify your face shape in seconds”, then “check a lot of different hairstyles depending on your face shape”. It lists oval, square, round, heart, oblong and diamond.
- Platforms: iPhone and iPad.
- Pricing model: free with ads; one-off purchases for shape packs and ad removal.
7. Face Shape: Rating & Analyzer: best for on-device golden ratio readings
This app combines a face shape finder with golden ratio and symmetry readings.
- What it says it does: it identifies “Diamond, Square, Oblong, Heart, Circular” faces and calculates a golden ratio beauty score. It says it uses “local face detection technology, so your photos are not sent to a server”, and that it is “designed for entertainment purposes only”.
- Platforms: iPhone and iPad.
- Pricing model: free with ads; one-off packs to unlock images.
Should you trust an app’s face shape result?
An app’s face shape result is a useful starting point, not a final answer. Every app here works from one photo, so a tilted head, uneven light or loose hair can shift the outline it reads. Take the selfie straight on with your hair pulled back, then check the result in a mirror. Once you know your shape, our guides cover oval, round, square, heart and oblong faces in detail.
Bottom line: which face shape app should you pick?
Pick Beautify if you want your face shape alongside eye shape, skin type and scores from one scan, and you are on an iPhone. Pick Hiface or YouCam Makeup if seeing a style on your own photo matters most, and Find Your Face Shape if you only want the shape and some hairstyle ideas. If hair is your main goal, see our list of the best hairstyle apps.
