No-makeup makeup, step by step
A no-makeup makeup look uses minimal, skin-colored products so you look rested rather than made up: hydrated skin, a BB cream or tinted moisturizer, concealer only where needed, groomed brows, mascara on the top lashes, a cream blush and a lip color close to your natural shade.

- 1
Prep and prime
Hydrated skin is what makes barely-there makeup work.
- Cleanse gently, then tone if you use a toner.
- Moisturize with a lightweight formula.
- Optional: prime only where you have large pores or shine.
- 2
Subtle base
Keep coverage light so your real skin shows through.
- Blend a tinted moisturizer, BB or CC cream with your fingers or a sponge.
- Conceal only dark circles and blemishes.
- Set just the T-zone with translucent powder.
- 3
Soft definition for the eyes
Define the eyes with natural shades and quick strokes.
- Fill sparse brow spots lightly and brush through with a spoolie.
- Optional: a quick wash of soft brown or taupe on the lids.
- Curl lashes and apply a thin coat of mascara to the top lashes.
- 4
Subtle glow and color
A whisper of color keeps you looking awake.
- Dab cream blush onto the apples of the cheeks and blend outward.
- Optional: a small amount of highlighter on the cheekbones.
- Optional: dust bronzer lightly around the edges of the face.
- 5
Natural lips
Finish with your lips, but a little better.
- Start with lip balm.
- Choose a tinted gloss or sheer lipstick close to your natural lip color.
- Optional: line lightly with a nude pencil for a neater edge.
Questions
Questions people ask
What is the difference between clean girl and no-makeup makeup?
They overlap. No-makeup makeup aims to look like you are wearing nothing, while clean girl makeup is a little more styled, with slicked brows, a visible dewy glow and glossy lips.
